Toro Y Moi “Divina”
This post was originally submitted by reader Aimee Laurel. This is her work, and it’s fantastic. I laughed, cried and punched a hole in the wall after reading it.
At the same time.
Here it is:
Sophia Coppola fucking hit it out of the park with The Virgin Suicides soundtrack (The Air produced score probably has something to do with it).
It turns out that her ability to pick and choose the right musical reference is a great way to mask a mixed-review movie (see: Somewhere). Thankfully The Virgin Suicides was both a great film and an amazing aural experience. Over a decade later, the sound still stands the test of time.
Interestingly enough, when I first heard this track by Toro y Moi, I instantly thought of Kirsten Dunst’s charming little snaggle tooth and her doomed sisters. I am certain that if Sophia made the movie again in 2012, “Divina” would make its way onto the soundtrack.
The song is little bit haunting, a whole lot of beautiful. Much like a virgin.
Keep them coming folks. Remember, if you ever want to submit some of your fabulous writing, simply click on the submit button. Or if you’re lazy, click here.
