The Digital Outhouse

I don’t know what type of impression I’m creating by making my inaugural post about Ms. Chan Marshall. But I guess I don’t really care either.

Hi Digital Outhouse. So happy to be here.

I first heard Cat Power (Real name: Chan Marshall. How badass is that?) after googling the heck out of an old De Beers commercial (circa 2006). Having tried and failed horribly at writing my own songs, these effortlessly simple lyrics were actually pretty captivating. I was determined to know who was the voice behind them.

Initially Marshall’s voice didn’t stand out to me in any remarkable way. But after following her work and watching some of her live performances, I realized she has such a uniquely earnest style. She paved the road for Zooey, Regina, Sarah… all of those broads. Plus on looks alone, she’s hotter than all of them put together.
