TOBACCO + Air “Sing Sang Sung (Remix)”

Unsurprisingly, TOBACCO and the rest of Black Moth Super Rainbow blew my mind at their show in San Francisco a few weeks ago. It was a smorgasbord (what a funny word) of aural  wonder, splattered with hints of hip hop, rock and psychedelia.

I once read that BMSR’s music was “the missing link between Daft Punk’s cosmic kitsch and the wistful bliss of ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’”, and I couldn’t agree more. I mean, doesn’t this excite the pants right off of you?

Because my pants are definitely off. 

Anyway, TOBACCO’s remix of this Air track is one of the most appropriately stunning remixes I’ve heard in a long time. I’m almost inclined to say it’s better than the original. 

Really though.

Air “Sonic Armada”

Despite efforts by both Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown to ban Air from the “airwaves” (yeah, I went there), the French duo has overcome all odds to release their latest LP, Le Voyage Dans La Lune (or Voyage to the Moon, for the French illiterate).

I’m glad they did.

Here’s my favorite track off the new album. It’s essentially a 5 minute long keyboard solo.

Which is totally rad.

Air “La Femme d’Argent”

Air has masterfully composed beautiful music for the last 16 years, and none rank higher than La Femme d’Argent (granted, there might be others, but for the purposes of today’s post there are none). 

I’ve taken the liberty of translating said song title for the French illiterate (myself included). Google translate has revealed this means “women money” (roughly).

So I suppose the idea of “Gold diggers” did not originate from Kanye West after all. Though, it is entirely possible that “women money” may actually be a reference to a rich woman, or perhaps a woman banker. The possibilities are endless. 

And that my friends, is a Google translate fail.

Air “All I Need”

Air plays a unique kind of tune, and once you’ve heard them it’s very easy to identify it. Hopefully, this isn’t your first introduction to this talented duet, but if it is, you should know that each and every beautifully crafted song by them exudes an air (pun intended! You know it) of sophistication that could only come from a country as sophisticated as France.

Right, of course they’re French. Now it all makes sense.
