MGMT “I Found A Whistle”

Dear. Mr. Renostache,

While you are right that I am indeed bummed about my inability to procure a ticket for Bro-chella, you are wrong to think that I have any sort of animosity towards you as a result of this unfortunate turn of events.

In fact, I still kind of, sort of (most definitely) feel like this year’s lineup leaves a little to be desired. Particularly because almost every single one of my favorite bands won’t be in attendance. Beach House? Kings of Convenience? Daft Punk? Toro Y Moi? Youth Lagoon?

And let’s not forget MGMT.

I did find this whistle though. What’s my favorite word?

All the best,

Joseph of the whistle.

P.S. I hope David Guetta is everything you hope for, and some.

Best Coast “The Only Place”

Is it time yet?

By time I mean Summer of course, and while the lovely state of California (and more specifically The Bay Area) finally experiences a bit of gloomy weather, Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno have released a track aching to be played on a sunny day at the beach (how dare they!).

Coincidentally, it happens to be about the pleasant weather of this place I call home.

Anyway, if you’re one of the lucky individuals living in a place where it’s actually sunny, skip on over to Stereogum and download the track. But please, don’t tell me about it.

Oh and one more thing. How about that album art.

Jai Paul ”BTSTU (Edit)”

Such acidic lyrics, sung so sweetly.

Before this song was used on HBO’s “How To Make It In America”. And Drake ruined sampled it on “Dreams Money Can Buy”. It was just a track some guy named Jai Paul created in Rayners Lane, UK. He slapped it on MySpace and the rest is history.

Miike Snow “Paddling Out”

Guess what? Miike Snow’s new album, Happy To You, is set to drop next week on March 26th. Of course, that means everyone already has their hands on a digital copy, and you can add me to that list of impressive people (others include that fat, bearded dude with Dr. Dre headphones chilling in Starbucks, and 75% of San Francisco’s population).

After a brief run through the album, I found it’s the final track that really gets me out of my seat and into my full on “overly embarrassing two-step, but it’s ok because I’m alone in my room and no one can see me” dance.

You know what dance I’m talking about.

“There’s someone here who laughs too hard at everything”

Lemonade “Neptune”

Music that comes from San Francisco tends to be good. I’d get deeper into that statement, but I would rather blindly believe that there isn’t anyone with a contrasting point of view.

Instead, let’s talk more about Lemonade, and their hypnotic synth-heavy tunes. Their biography on last.fm describes them as “a fantasy landscape that is at once gritty and pristine, tropical and foreboding”. Alright, I’ll roll with that.

The band is set to release their newest LP, Diver on May 29th.

Oh, and the next time someone brings up that terribly old cliche “when life gives you lemons…” you can decidedly slap this right back in their faces and say something clever like “I already have some lemonade, and it’s called… Lemonade” (alright, you could probably do better).
